My scrappy, self-taught, and bootstrapped background has taught me how to deliver quality software quickly. I have a 15-year track record of doing just that – cutting scope, negotiating project hand-offs, communicating clearly, and producing time-bomb-free shapes (project documents).

Experience

Full-Stack Engineer @ DNSimple.com (2019 to Present)

• Led the release of dozens of new features with Rails / Postgres / VueJS, including Google/Okta SSO, record notes, scoped API tokens, and the groundwork for a Domain Control Plane.
• Led a small team to many on-time feature releases using the Shape Up methodology.
• Drove change among the engineers on topics such as technical debt and project management.
• Wrote blog posts for new features and feature deprecations, as well as keeping the support site up-to-date.
• Managed open-source API clients, including interacting with requests from the public.
• Created a dozen marketing and support videos.

Developer @ Compilr.com (2015 to 2019)

• Rebuilt the 8-app infrastructure to auto-scale using Node.js, MySQL, Redis, Amazon VPC, Ubuntu, EmberJS, and Bash.
• Refactored a spaghetti-code user interface into sensible, maintainable components.
• Co-wrote a reactive templating JS library.
• Wrote a NodeJS-based API deployment system to AWS Lambda.

CEO & Lead Developer @ Instagive.io (2014 to 2022)

• Created and maintained a Ruby on Rails platform for non-profits to receive donations online (processed ~1m CAD).
• Led marketing efforts using trade shows, e-books, sales meetings, and emails.
• Executed administrative duties to ensure tax receipts were issued correctly each year.
• Handled customer support requests via phone and email.

Lead Developer @ EmailOpened.com (2012 to 2014)

• Created a Ruby on Rails platform for businesses to send out marketing emails.
• Built the marketing website design and content using WordPress.
• Helped a junior developer get up to speed with Ruby on Rails.
