Truth is found through experience and evidence.
True is a point and there’s a circle of What’s Possibly True around it. Evidence is how we narrow the circle. It gives us confidence in knowledge outside of our own selves.
Let’s say there’s a Platypus.
When I point him out to you, you tell me he’s venomous.
Who knows what’s True? We have no way of knowing.
You assert, “Look, the venom is in his webbed feet.”
Now do we know if the Platypus is Truly venomous?
Nope. No closer to finding what’s True. I’d be a fool to believe that on it’s face, but now we can investigate further.
I respond, “How do you know that?”
“I read The Way of an Platypus last week and it explained that a Platypus has venomous hooks on its feet.”
I reply, “But Platypus are mammals.”
Do we now know what’s True?
Nah, but the circle of What’s Possibly True is shrinking. We have just a couple more threads to pull and then we’ll know what’s True.
If you build an opinion/worldview without Evidence, it’s possible your beliefs line up with what’s True. But… you have no way of knowing if you’re right.
A fool’s confidence is absent of Evidence.
