What have I done with AI?
I'm keeping a running tally for the skeptics and the dreamers alike.
Things it helped me do
- An iOS shortcut fix for messaging my wife
- Diagnosing the heat pump
- Fixing a Power Wheels
- Analyzing Messi’s performance in a specific game
- Coding productivity, measured by features released, bugs fixed, and bugs filed
- Turning a thought into a blog post in no time
- Writing code in languages I have never written in before
- Digesting deep academic articles
- Understanding articles quickly, so they do not pile up in my reading list
- Designing a system based on CQRS and event sourcing in Ruby, and porting two production applications onto it
- Building a property management tool
- Server management, and spinning up a server with multiple apps on it
- Having conversations to understand topics such as stock options and heat pumps
- Building a bookkeeping program
- Building a meta-values quiz
- Rebuilding this website end to end, including its type scale and design system
- Drafting reviews for the pull requests waiting on me, so I edit instead of starting cold
- Working through a backlog of issues and sorting what matters from what does not
- Driving a real browser through a scripted run and keeping the evidence
- Moving URLs to new addresses without breaking the old ones
- Catching bugs I would not have caught, usually in the places I was not looking
- Keeping notes on a codebase so the next session does not start from nothing
- Writing this list
Things it has not helped me do
- Get any of my side projects making money
- Get eyeballs on those projects
- Manage third party contractors effectively enough to reach my goals
- Find people to fulfill tasks like cleaning and other help
The second list is the interesting one. Everything on it needs other people.
