🔨 Here's what I'm working on these days
After building dozens and dozens of projects, I've finally settled on a few where I can make a big difference.
-
Turning statements into books @ bkpr
I wanted Mint's touch with a real ledger's resolution. bkpr turns bank and card statements into a proper set of books; you set it up, it runs, and the only recurring work is re-categorizing a couple of things every once in a while. It's driven entirely through commands, so it doesn't matter whether a person or an agent operates it.
-
Managing rentals without the giants @ PrivateLets
Software for actually managing rental properties, leases, and tenants. Sign up with your email and get your own copy of PrivateLets; every landlord runs their own instance, so your tenants' data lives with you instead of in somebody else's platform.
-
The agent drafts, you decide @ dev.review
An agent reads the pull requests waiting on you and drafts a review for each one into storage you already own. You read the draft, cut what is wrong, write what is missing, and post it under your own name. Nothing reaches GitHub until you press post.

Simplifying personal finances @ Fast Finance
I was looking for an all-in-one accounting and financial projections software for my own ventures — so that I could make data-based decisions about my future. I wanted to keep possession of my sensitive data, not handing over to the tech giants. It's gone through a few iterations, but the app has finally settled into it's own.
-
Decentralizing the internet @ Follow Along
There is no practical reason why social media companies have our data siloed away (and sold off). A variety of technologies and tools already exist that could bring their omnipotent reach into check. Follow Along is one answer to the problem — an RSS reader with extra goodies.

Automating hot tub treatment @ AutoChlorinatorâ„¢
Your hot tub is for enjoying; it's not for practicing chemistry. Tired of spending frustrating hours checking, measuring, dosing, and checking your spa over and over? The AutoChlorinatorâ„¢ checks your pool regularly & and automatically treats it.
-
Making the world a funner place @ The Jokeinatorâ„¢
The Jokeinatorâ„¢ is a on-your-hip reminder of your joke-telling responsibilities. This schnazzy device is designed to send you alerts that will make you and others howl at any time — be ready. Don't be caught off guard without a joke to tell.
-
Simplify private notes @ Notes
Frustrated with syncing/sharing issues with Apple's Notes app, I built my own simple Notes app. It follows the local-first paradigm, yet syncs to any S3-compliant storage service. There's no reason to let the tech oligopolies of the world have your most private data.
-
Simplifying team management @ Time Off Scheduleâ„¢
Give your team the opportunity to book time off that works with your business — not against it. Team leaders are notified via text message when time off has been requested. Team members are notified via text message when their time off has been approved or denied.

The Ultimate Side-Project Focuserâ„¢
A tool I built for myself in 16 minutes to stop letting side projects rot. List them all. Focus exactly one. Built as the test of its own thesis.
